"Compared to war, all other human endeavor shrinks to insignificance."

- General George Patton.

THROUGHOUT HISTORY there has always been a dominant empire, a dominant military force reducing a much larger amount of conflict which might have otherwise ensued. There is no country better suited to ensure that the world is politically and economically stable than America.

If we retire to our own borders, many experts believe global chaos will ensue, finally disrupting our own domestic tranquility. In particular, if we leave the Middle East, both Russia and Iran may dominate the region and become a much more substantial threat to both Israel and Europe. We will have to reverse our withdrawal having wasted even more time and money, and having made the world a much more dangerous place to be.

ON THE OTHER HAND, the United States has promiscuously spread its military virility all over the world. We have troops stationed in literally hundreds of countries. Our allies, big and small, have been trained to rely on the power of the US military instead of their own. The goal is a kind of global stability which requires the United States to police the world, and therefore to demand from the people blood, treasure, and commitment to the regime. This empire is no more sustainable than Rome’s or Britain’s, and Americans are growing weary of this old-world order. They remember the Founder’s warnings about foreign entanglements noticing that they have been entirely validated.

The Chairwoman, who thinks knitting is for shamefully distracted mothers, has called a debate to settle the issue:

RESOLVED: Oh, what a tangled web we weave!

The Debate will be held on November 20, 2019, at Burger Moe's, 242 7th St. W., in Saint Paul.

The Chancellor will preside over drinks beginning at seven o’clock p.m. The debate will begin at half past seven. There is no dress code, however gentlemen who wish to speak must wear a tie; ladies are encouraged to adhere to a similar sartorial standard. For those gentlemen arriving sans tie yet wishing to discourse on the resolution, the Purveyor of Ties will keep on hand several remarkable selections.

Questions regarding debate caucus procedures or about the John Adams Society itself may be directed to the Chairman at 612.968.3493 or the Secretary at 952.237.3096.
