I am not inclined to adopt a vote of thanks to any man, without knowing what for, or being satisfied they are deserved. - Davey Crockett

President George W. Bush is the epitome of an American President: strong willed, plain spoken, and idealistic. When our nation was attacked the President chose to go on the offensive; not just against the specific perpetrators, but into the heart of the Islamic world. President Bush stood firm despite setbacks and opposition, and against all conventional wisdom, the United States has not been attacked since September 11. Further, in 2000 the bubble economy of the 1990s finally crashed. The crash should have taken this nation into serious recession. Although Presidents may have little impact in improving economies, they can have great impact in destroying economies. Fortunately, President Bush has made all the right moves and his economic policies have been successful in keeping the country out of economic depression.

Finally, the liberal social attack on society has intensified in the last four years with the increased advocacy of homosexual marriage. If President Bush is elected for another term it is very possible that his leadership on preserving traditional marriage could defeat the homosexual marriage movement. The election of another individual, however, would make gay marriage inevitable.

on the other hand, while President Bush has led us through war and recession, his polices have been a failure. The war in Iraq is a waste of lives and treasure. While we spend billions funding our military across the globe, millions of illegal aliens move easily across our borders taking our jobs and destroying our culture. Under President Bush, federal government spending has increased drastically, while also increasing the deficit. Defeating President Bush in the next election could actually reduce government spending because his defeat would bring divided government. Finally, President Bush has not taken principled socially conservative positions. He defends the right to life only through innuendos, and has wavered on allowing some government spending for embryonic stem cell research.

The chairman, who claims to deserve his own election, has called for a debate to settle the question:

Resolved: President Bush Deserves Re-election .

The Debate will be held on Wednesday, September 15, 2004 at the University Club, 420 Summit Avenue, in Saint Paul. The Chancellor will preside over drinks beginning at seven o'clock p.m. The debate will begin at half past seven. While there is no dress code for attendance, gentlemen who wish to speak must wear a tie; ladies should adhere to a similar sartorial standard. For those gentlemen who arrive tieless yet wish to speak, fret not: the Purveyor of Ties will keep on hand at least one of his quite remarkable ties for just such an eventuality. Questions about debate caucus procedures or about the John Adams Society itself may be directed to the Chairman at 952-985-7776 or the Secretary at (952) 937-7630.
